Critical Conditioning Fitness’ Inception
Hey! My name is Kris ‘Iron Dad’ Evan and I am the founder of Critical Conditioning Fitness. I’ve been playing D&D, other TTRPGS, and digital RPGs for over 30 years now. I also adopted Fitness as a major pillar of my life on my first combat deployment in 2009 during my time in the Military. Those two sentences back to back, let alone in the same paragraph, don’t make a whole lot of sense to most people. For the first time, these two massively critical pillars of my life will be coming together to create something truly legendary…and what I believe to be truly life changing.
I think the most important factor to consider regarding how this program came to be… is the ‘Why’. So let’s start there…
The ‘why’
Them: “A free 12 week beta? Super cheap 12 week personalized coaching and nutrition guidance through your own app!? EXP, leveling up, story telling, random encounters, boss fights AND a supportive mutually beneficial community genuinely wanting to help each other grow!? Impossible!” - This was a response I got after sending out the first invite to our closed beta with a program summary…
I'll be honest...I am mostly doing this out of spite from the amount of greed in our world - particularly in the fitness/online coaching industry. I genuinely want to help people get more fit, and just be in a healthier place physically and mentally. Before I built a program for this, it was important to me to understand my own reasoning. I had to make sure it made sense to me before it made sense to anyone else.
I do NOT want, nor intend, to charge a lot of money. I want to charge enough money (after the free 12 week beta aka the prologue) to sustain and improve the program for others. Pricing will be VERY modest. My wife and I owned a high ticket coaching company before...pitching sales calls and selling high ticket coaching programs...it felt scummy and I hated it.
My love for Fitness and D&D (and other TTRPGs), gaming just never fit with one another. All the things I loved conflicted with each other. Gaming and rolling math rocks with my friends meant I was sedentary, gaining fat… when I was lifting, or training martial arts… I wasn’t having fun in a gaming sense - the theatre of mind was just an empty space with untapped potential. Years ago, around 2021 this idea initially triggered…but I didn’t have the ability, skills, or even resources to execute. All of that has changed.
I got into Online Coaching a few years ago, even launched a company with my wife, Janette. It was successful, though short lived. We both quickly realized we didn’t enjoy it…but it wasn’t because we didn’t enjoy coaching, mentoring, or helping others… we just went about it the wrong way. Late 2024, we hired a mentor - arguably one of the best in the Online Coaching Industry, Justin Wenzel and his team. We went through countless hours of training, building workflows and automations, websites, lead funnels, structuring and practicing sales calls that when it came time to execute…we closed 100% of the sales calls we conducted. But even after all that, and closing high ticket sales deals…we hated it. We felt scummy for practicing sales call skillsets that are almost impossible to walk away from. I felt like one of those people in the Souqs from deployments in the middle east trying so hard to sell you fake Rolex’s…anyways, I digress. My point is, we hated sales calls, hated high ticket pricing, and did not feel good about it. I’m not taking away from the folks that make a living doing that - there is definitely a space for it…it just wasn’t for us.
On that note, I would be remiss if I did not mention the other influences that helped forge this program. I went to GenCon in 2026, and met some amazing people. One of which was Tank Tolman, well known for his Nordic-themed Viking Roleplay style fitness program for at home workouts with unorthodox equipment. It was almost exactly what I had tried to build in 2021…almost identical. With some of the things I’ve learned over the years regarding coding, automation, online coaching, sales, and more…I finally had the ability to create my program. While these programs may share some similarities, they very much cater to two different styles of fitness coaching - but both with the intent of helping others by just being a good person with a good heart and sharing/guiding them to success. I commend Tank for this, and he was truly an inspiration for this program. So Tank, if you ever read this - you have inspired me more than you may realize.
Pricing…this is such a internal conflict I have. I want to grow the program to astronomical numbers - which implies a low price point. From a business perspective, and my personal experience, I also know that low price points meant clients would not be as dedicated because they would not be losing as much money as they would with, say, a high-ticket coaching program like we used to run. So…how do I get people to stay motivated and not give up half way through when things get hard? I do that though interactive encounters, character - exp - and level progression, legendary equipment, and most importantly…community. COMMUNITY…this was the major piece I was missing in our previous program. Its such an essential pillar to the success of any coaching program…particularly online. But If I charge so little, how can I sustain this program for the long run….how?
The ‘How’
As mentioned, in 2021, I just did not have the ability, the technical prowess, the business acumen, but most importantly… the resources.
2021 - I launched several Valheim, and other gameservers, which I’ve run since then until the current date… peep the Gameservers section of my website.
2023 - I launched this website, started learning HTML, integrations with other programs/apps/websites, and more…
2024 - My Wife and I launched our online coaching company to which I built ALL of the infrastructure for automation. From lead to deal closing - all me…with some help from the JWX team of course (Thanks Matt!)
2025 - I was in full transition mode from the military as I was retiring the following year. I did alot of coding and practice on a multitude of projects during this time where I was lost on what I wanted to do after retiring.
2026 - I retired from the military after 20 years. I finally have the time, the ability, the business acumen, and most importantly the resources.
The truth is…my family and I DO NOT NEED the income from this program. That isn’t to be condescending - though it completely sounds like it. I am saying that because 1) Its true and 2) The bottom line and profit margins are not my focus which is a rarity in today’s world where greed conquers all.
I am to a point in my life where my family and I are financially comfortable, I have wayyyy too much time on my hands, and I have a creative thirst that must be quenched… not to mention my absolute love for helping others and watching them change their lives in a positive way. Nothing brings me more satisfaction.
I fully intend not to pocket any profits for a long time, likely years, regarding this program. I want to turn and burn all the profits and put them back into the program to make it better for the people who participate in it. The adventurers…the Crits!
I hope that you can see that my team and I truly care about this and have nothing but the best intentions for you and your goals. We’re sick and tired of the amount of fake people, coaches, greed and more and just want to tip the scales of balance a bit…
‘May the gains be ever in your favor!’
